The Show
For many years our show formed an exciting part of our children’s work. This was a small showcase of all of the children who wished to perform. The audience consisted of the other children and their families and friends. The showcase was not a play, but a chance for each child to take part by performing a poem or acting piece - often one of their examination pieces - for an audience. Many children present with severe speech problems, and it has been such a great delight to introduce them to the audience as a competent and accomplished performer. Other youngsters, already well on their way to becoming professional actors, have given stunning acting performances. We enjoyed ourselves at the interval by tucking into the party food that everyone brought for the communal table. Over the years the performance opportunities open to the children though other activities have increased dramatically and we now limit our showcase to occasional special events.
In 2005 we celebrated our 21st Anniversary with a Showcase at the Insole Court in Cardiff.

One of Cardiff’s longest established children’s speech and drama schools is celebrating its 21st birthday this month. Friends and family packed into The Insole Court on Sunday to celebrate 21 years of The Cardiff Academy of Speech and Drama. Over the decades its founder, Helen Love, has worked very successfully with hundreds of children, ranging from those with speech problems to others who have gone on to a career in the theatre. The celebration took the form of a Showcase which was attended by the students’ friends and family. Helen commented: “I am so proud of what all the children have achieved. Many of them have overcome severe impediments. They are all wonderful.”
